How to use CORN
CORN is your team's guest memory layer. It captures what every guest needs before they arrive, surfaces it at the right moment, and keeps everyone aligned — without extra meetings or paperwork.
Getting started
Import your Opera CSV
CORN reads guest and stay data directly from an Opera export. You don't need to type anything manually — just export and upload.
What to export from Opera
- → Go to Front Desk → Reservations → Export (or your property's equivalent)
- → Select a date range (typically today + 7 days ahead for arrivals)
- → Include columns: Guest Name, Email, Arrival Date, Departure Date, Room, Status, VIP Code, Traces/Remarks
- → Export as .csv or .xlsx
Where to upload in CORN
- → Open the More menu → Import (or go to
/import) - → Drop your file, review the preview, confirm the import
- → CORN will match returning guests automatically and flag any conflicts for your review
Review guest profiles
After import, guest profiles are ready but may be incomplete. A few minutes of enrichment makes a real difference at check-in.
Where to find them
- → Guests in the top nav — full list, searchable by name
- → Arrivals tab — today's arrivals with prep status and allergy alerts
- → Daily Brief — sorted by VIP level, with everything pre-grouped for the morning briefing
What to complete
- → Profile overview — a 2–3 sentence summary of who this guest is
- → Preferences — dietary restrictions, room preferences, communication style
- → Preparation checklist — mark tasks for housekeeping, concierge, F&B
Open the Daily Brief
The Brief is your morning briefing document. It brings together arrivals, departures, in-house VIPs, and preparation status in one view.
Where it is
- → Brief in the top nav, or the Daily Brief button on the dashboard
- → Also accessible from any guest profile via Pre-arrival Brief →
What it shows
- → Attention Required — preparation items still pending for today's arrivals
- → Arrivals — every arriving guest with their VIP level, stay number, key preferences, and prep status
- → In-house VIPs — VIP and VVIP guests currently on property
- → Departures — who leaves today
Daily workflow
Morning — before the briefing
- 01Open the Daily Brief (Brief in the top nav)
- 02Check the Attention Required section — anything still pending?
- 03Review arriving guests top to bottom — VIP first
- 04Note allergy alerts (red badges) — confirm with F&B and housekeeping
- 05Print the brief or share the screen during the morning huddle
During the day — tracking preparation
- 01As each task is completed, open the guest profile and check it off
- 02Housekeeping uses the /preparation view to check off room items room by room
- 03Concierge uses the guest profile checklist to confirm transfers and bookings
- 04The dashboard prep counter updates in real time as items are checked off
When a guest arrives
- 01Open their profile from the Arrivals view or search by name
- 02Verify their preferences are up to date — anything new since last visit?
- 03Add an observation if you notice something useful (e.g. traveling with a dog, celebrating anniversary)
- 04Observations are timestamped and visible to everyone on the team
End of day
- 01Check the Departures section — any no-shows or late check-outs?
- 02Add observations for anything that happened during the stay
- 03Note any service glitches on the guest profile (type: Glitch) — this prevents repeating the same issue next time
- 04Re-import tomorrow's Opera export to refresh preparation lists
By department
Front Desk
Guest profiles
Everything you need before a guest arrives: preferences, past stays, open needs. Search by name in the Guests view.
Arrivals view
Today's arrivals with allergy alerts, VIP status, and a direct link to each guest profile. Accessible from the nav or /arrivals.
Observations
Use the Add Observation button on any profile to log anything that happens during the stay. Visible to the whole team instantly.
Housekeeping
/preparation view
Rooms grouped by room number, color-coded by readiness (red = not started, amber = in progress, green = ready). Tap each item to check it off.
Room indicator
Red dot = at least one item pending. Amber = some done, some pending. Green = all items complete. Resets each day with new arrivals.
Concierge
Preparation checklist
Concierge items appear on each guest's profile under Preparation. Use the Confirm button (blue) to mark a transfer, booking, or arrangement as confirmed — different from just 'done'.
Pre-arrival needs
Requests tagged 'Before' in the Needs section are pre-arrival. These come from the Opera Traces/Remarks field when imported.
SPA
/spa view
Today's guests with SPA bookings, sorted by arrival time. Shows room number, VIP level, and relevant wellness preferences. Use the Next badge to track who arrives first.
Treatment history
Previous treatments are logged on each guest profile under the SPA tab. Use this to avoid repeating treatments the guest disliked.
F&B
Allergy alerts
Red badges with ⚠️ appear on arrival cards and in the Brief for any pending dietary or allergy preparation items. These are high-priority — do not dismiss without confirming with the guest.
Dietary preferences
Imported from Opera Traces, or entered manually in the Preferences section of a guest profile under Dining & Beverages.
Common questions
How do I add a guest preference manually?
Open the guest profile → scroll to the Preferences section → click Add preference. Choose a category (Dining, Room, Wellness, etc.), enter the label and value, and save. The preference is immediately visible to the whole team.
What happens if a guest already exists when I import?
CORN matches returning guests automatically by email, name, or confirmation number. For an existing guest, only new information is added — existing preferences and staff notes are never overwritten. If the match is ambiguous, CORN flags the row for manual review before writing anything to the database.
How do I add a new staff member?
Hotel admins can invite staff from Settings → Team. Enter their email address, choose a role (Staff, Manager, Hotel Admin), and optionally assign them to a department. They will receive an invitation link by email.
Only hotel_admin and above can invite new users.
Can I edit an imported guest profile?
Yes. Open the guest profile and click Edit in the top right corner. You can update the name, contact details, nationality, VIP level, and summary. Preferences and observations have their own add/edit flows within the profile.
Changes you make manually will not be overwritten on the next import.
